  1. So you've published yourself then? Have you published any other writers? What do you do for book design, interiors and covers?

  2. Stephan, Just to let you know, I am old school. I've been writing for 31 years with 5 books published, all self-published. I've won 5 awards for my self-published books some against top traditionally published books. I believe it's extremely important to self-publish because it gets you work out into the marketplace.

My wife and I formed David Bauer Press and I published her book under our company, but we are writers and aren't interested in publishing other writers. Createspace will self-publish your manuscript for $39.00. I spent $10,000 dollars to publish Waterfront Rats. I looked on the internet for an artist. Sent him a proposal and paid him $1,000 for the front cover. I hired an editor for $2,200 to go through the manuscript. She was excellent and had written over 100 books herself. The biggest problem with self-publishing is the lack of editing. It's very important.

I then had a man take the manuscript and lay out the front cover, inside cover, and the manuscript. He then sent it to the printers. All of this cost money.

One other aspect of writing that is very important is a critique group. It will give you so many great ideas about your writing.

I have a friend who is handling social media for me. She has formed a new blogsite called Author's Highway. She is a God send to me because I am struggling to fulfull the demands of social media.
